In 1922, the Army Nursing Service was initiated to take over Military Hospitals on behalf of the emerging Irish State from the withdrawing British military. The service continued on an ad hoc basis through 1922 and 23 until it was formally established in 1924 within the overall establishment of Óglaigh na hÉireann. The 90th Anniversary of the formal establishment of the Army Nursing Service will be commemorated on the 09th December 2014 with a mass in the Garrison Church in the Curragh at 1030 followed by the launch of a Commemorative Booklet in the museum and a reception in Ceannt NCO’s Mess. All currently serving members and retired members of the Army Nursing Service, including their families and friends are warmly invited to attend. Likewise all currently serving or retired members of the Defence Forces who benefited from the services of the ANS are welcome.
