In 1938 a small factory called Ritz settled itself in the Heerenstraat. Shortly after that, during World War II, it supplied milk to the U.S. soldiers stationed on the island. A full scale ice cream factory in Scharloo followed and Ritz became one of Curaçao’s most beloved brands. When the factory closed in the nineties a very familiar scene of small ice venders selling Temptis, Poporeshis and Palu Frius on the streets of Punda ceased to exist. Visit La Boutique del Caribe at Landhuis Bloemhof for more interesting facts about Punda’s history. Guided tours are offered from Tuesday to Saturday at 11am and 12.30pm for ANG 10.00 (which includes a free drink). For reservations call 511-7145. Punda Then and Now
