In 1939 the MS St Louis was a German ocean liner, its captain Gustav Shroder tried to find asylum for 939 Jewish refugees on board, they were continuously turned away - historians estimate a quarter of the ships passengers after being returned to Europe died in concentration camps. The boat of 153 Tamil refugees - including 37 children - is our St Louis, if they are returned it is safe to say that they face a significant risk of torture, death and incarceration.
