In 1948 my grand father BP Doolub was still serving as a Sargent Major in the Royal Pioneer Corp of the British Army, in Africa. My grand mother wrote to him asking if she could adopt an orphaned baby boy aged nearly one. Both of his parents had passed away and the boys grand mother was about to give him up to an orphanage. My grand father wrote back to my grand mother giving his approval. When my grand father returned from the war, his adopted son was so happy, it was as if his own father had returned. He dearly loved both his adopted parents and his other brothers and sister, one of them my mother Ouma. The day my adopted uncle passed away, my mother was so sad, the whole of the Doolub family was sad. And I remember him as a great person, a wonderful uncle. Anyway my grand father was known for his big heart, for looking after the poor and the less fortunate..
