In 1960 because I had gone to the New York N.A.A.C.P. to protest the grades given me by a white racist proud Scottish boasting about his Scottish descent Eton-derby-wearing upon receipt of his Ph.D. after teaching four of my political science classes at Columbia University. I was told by an administrator that I might receive an empty envelope commencement day without the degree. ... Whatever the eminent Franklin Williams did must have been effective because I opened the envelope and my degree was there ! ... I must add with trembling hands ! .... It had been said a number of days prior to that occasion. ... If that wasnt enough ... in the presence of two Columbia Law School alumni recommending me, a white Columbia Law School Professor and former General President and Columbia Law School alumnus Judge Myles A Paige, Harold L Carter was told by the Columbia University Law School Admissions Officer, you should be glad and be satisfied that you are wearing a Columbia University undergraduate ring on your finger ! - Upon returning home to Columbus, Ohio, I was washing cars with my wine-drinking co-workers at a car wash then on Main and 18th before getting a job as a Court Stenographer before I began teaching history at the Ohio Department of Youth Services. I joined ranks of some noted black musicians and others during this strict segregation white racist era with college degrees working either at the post office or teaching ! - [Car Wash movie theme son: https://youtube/watch?v=fXXmeP9TvBg
