In 1967, Ken Shapiro formed The Channel One Theater, screening pre-taped sketches and commercial parodies as the product of a fictional, subversive television network. Years later, their work would culminate into a film known as, The Groove Tube, starring Shapiro, Richard Belzer and a pre-SNL Chevy Chase... Oddly enough, the News Segment portion of the film closely resembles what would become SNLs Weekend Update, right down to the Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow sign-off. Also worth mentioning is the VD PSA with a penis disguised as a puppet and a TV clown that reads erotica to children when no one is around.
