In 1967,in effect, that decision declared the One Drop Rule unconstitutional: [T]he States legitimate purposes were to preserve the racial integrity of its citizens, and to prevent the corruption of blood, a mongrel breed of citizens, and the obliteration of racial pride, obviously an endorsement of the doctrine of White Supremacy....we find the racial classifications in these statutes repugnant to the Fourteenth Amendment. It all seems rather silly, until you remember that none of this happened that long ago. Halle Berry was born in 1966, and this happened in her lifetime. It occurred when she was 1 yr old. She could hardly have been impacted by the one drop rule that she endorses in her statement But I feel like she’s Black. I’m Black and I’m her mother, and I believe in the one-drop theory.” My kids are Americans of Jewish (Russian and Polish descent) and Puerto Rican (that means Hispanic, Borinquen and French descent) heritage. They dont need to choose what they are. They are neither White (no such thing unless you are the Pillsbury Doughboy or Stay Puft Marshmellow man), Brown, Black, or any other single race. To think that they need to choose on of these only promotes the racism that we are trying to get rid of. Cmon Halle. Let her be an American.
