In 1968, the Civil Rights Act was passed. My dad was 26. I would be born 4 years later. So, imagine all those people who were fighting AGAINST the Civil Rights Act. Who didnt want Integration. People who didnt want black people, or any minority, voting. Not wanting people of different cultures intermarrying. Imagine the police officers, city clerks, business owners, property managers, politicians, teachers and others who didnt support the Civil Rights Movement. The State troopers who had no problem beating unarmed black people. The teacher who didnt want to teach a black child. All the people who fled to suburbs when they could no longer redline, blockbust or inhibit PoC from buying homes or starting businesses in their area. Now imagine them having kids. Imagine them raising their kids. Imagine then teaching their kids in the home, the things that cant say in public. Kids who would be around the same age as me. Does the current discussion on racism make sense?
