In 1973, the band Hot Chocolate released Brother Louie which peaked at number 7 on the UK chart but did not chart in the USA. Meanwhile in America, a band named Stories were recording albums and looking for their first hit record. They were going through some changes, their bassist Michael Brown, left Stories and was replaced by Kenny Aaronson. When the band heard Hot Chocolates version of Brother Louie, they decided to record a cover of the song. When they were experimenting with different ways to record the song, the new bassist Kenny, had a great idea to put a Motown-like bass line that made the song sound funky. When they released the single, it became a huge hit peaking at # 1 for 2 weeks and was certified gold. https://youtube/watch?v=gbj2uxUhjzg
