In 1984, I worked as Road Marshal during both, the Mens & Womens Olympic Marathons here, in Los Angeles. In the first marathon contested by females in The Games, Americas Joan Benoit (Samuelson) won the race...there hasnt been another US woman to win since. Conversely, today an American man, Meb Keflezighi, won the Boston Marathon amid the backdrop of the most significant road race outside of an olympics ever!!! There hasnt been a US winner in a very, very long time at that race. They bookend a very amazing historical legacy. I am trying to wrap my mind around this...
