In 1987, I was on my way to work, early in the morning, it was still dark. I was in my car going south on Baldwin at Suffolk in Sierra Madre. The car began to rock and I thought, oh no, flat tire. All of a sudden, I had a large chunk view the San Gabriel Valley, I was seeing many bright white explosions below and for a minute I believed we were under attack! Obviously we were not and soon realized I was experiencing the Whittier earthquake. The explosions were telephone transformers going up in smoke. Now, if you are really OSP, you have tales to tell as we had significant tremblers in 71 Sylmar, 87 Whittier, 88 Pasadena, 91 Sierra Madre, and 94 Northridge. It seems appropriate to talk about since we appear to be entering another period of seismic activity.
