In 1992, Lawrence Chewning and his wife experienced what they now call A Year of Sorrows. His father died that year, they were facing health problems, and he had come to a point of burnout as a pastor after 19 years of service at a church he had planted. To top it all off, his wife miscarried their 3rd child. Lawrence took a six month sabbatical from pastoring and he and his wife grieved and prayed. It was during this time that he began to sit behind the piano once again and the song The Anchor Holds flooded into his heart. After a meeting with his old friend, Ray Boltz, Lawrence told him to take the song and do what he wanted with it. Ray recorded the song in November 1994 and the response has been overwhelming. Listen as Pastor Mark talks about the Anchor of our life and what we must do to make it an effective and powerful force. RAY BOLTZ The Anchor Holds Lyrics I have journeyed Through the long, dark night Out on the open sea By faith alone Sight unknown And yet His eyes were watching me The anchor holds Though the ship is battered The anchor holds Though the sails are torn I have fallen on my knees As I faced the raging seas The anchor holds In spite of the storm Ive had visions Ive had dreams Ive even held them in my hand But I never knew They would slip right through Like they were only grains of sand The anchor holds Though the ship is battered The anchor holds Though the sails are torn I have fallen on my knees As I faced the raging seas The anchor holds In spite of the storm I have been young But I am older now And there has been beauty That these eyes have seen But it was in the night Through the storms of my life Oh, thats where God proved His love to me The anchor holds Though the ship is battered The anchor holds Though the sails are torn I have fallen on my knees As I faced the raging seas The anchor holds In spite of the storm
