In 1997 my dad gave me Johnny Winters Progressive Blues Experiment on cassette tape, I listened to it pretty much non-stop for two summers. A few years ago I told him what a huge influence that album was to me, then he told me that hed bought it in a truck stop many years before, listened to it once or twice and said it was too weird for him, we both started laughing. Below is one of the songs from that cassette. Listening to it now I can hear a ton of delta blues influence in Johnnys guitar work. Its no wonder that eventually my dad and I found ourselves in Clarksdale, MS for the 2012 Juke Joint Festival, where I was booked to play, just 63 miles north of Leland, Mississippi, a town where Johnny Winter spent many of his summers growing up on his Grandparents cotton farm
