In 1997, the voters of Gem elected a brilliant economist called Joe Akech Donde to be their MP. While in Parliament, he introduced the much talked about, Donde Bill, which became a nightmare to bankers as it was to address the question as to why bank loans attract huge interest rates while ones savings in the same banks yielded nothing. This was a great concern to every Kenyan household as middle income earners depend on bank loans to eke a decent living. The bill catapulted Donde to national limelight and he became a darling to every Toroitich, Njoroge and Onyango in Kenya. He became a nationalist. Before the bill saw the light of the day, the mover was voted out in his own backyard in 2002 because of political indifference. Back home. In 2013, EMC produced a nationalist in the form of a Senator, a very brilliant lawyer. Other than representing the interests of his county, the Senator also undertook the task of overseeing the national interests in matters devolution. But come 2017, the voters in the county may repeat the same mistake their counterparts in Gem did, hence denying this nation a priced hero, if going as per what people are posting here. MQ, please support your leaders and give them time to deliver and if they fail, take them to task when the right time comes. We dont eat politics 24/7.
