In 2001 President George W. Bush cynically used an American tragedy as an excuse to advance his agenda against Saddam Hussein, effectively destroying the accumulated sympathy and goodwill of other nations in the process. Countless Iraqi and American lives were lost or shattered, and the new-found unity of the American people was transformed into cynicism, distrust, and partisanship. Most of what were witnessing now in the Middle East is a direct result of Bushs incompetence and malfeasance, and remains his most enduring legacy. As President Obama goes about the thankless task of once again attempting to clean up one of Bushs messes, I would remind those on the right that none of the barbarism were being witness to would have taken root without the arrogance and deceit of the warmongers in the Bush administration.
