In 2002, Roy responded to a contempt notice issued against her with an affidavit saying the courts decision to initiate the contempt proceedings, while refusing to inquire into allegations of corruption in military-contracting deals pleading an overload of cases, indicated a disquieting inclination of Supreme Court to silence criticism by using contempt laws. Not surprisingly, the court found Roys affidavit to be contemptuous and sentenced her to a symbolic one days imprisonment, plus fine of Rs 2500.
