In 2003, I wrote a novel called Lost Cause. In 2006, it scored a great agent and was retitled Scramble. It got great feedback from publishers, but none took the leap. Over the next 8 years, my writing changed and I went back to reread this to see where Id come from. The amount of energy and joy in that book blew me away. Why didnt I write that way anymore? Why did I let rejection turn me towards what I thought I should write? Anyway, Im rewriting it, and all of its flaws 8 years later, are alarmingly obvious to me. Ive just finished page 66 of the rewrite. My aim is to have it ready to go by end of October. The first line: First, Thomas notices a woman standing on the building’s ledge, looking out over the city. Next, he spies her bare feet.
