In 2004, Indiana had 97 residential providers. There are now only 60. Per diem rates have been cut, fewer beds are available, there is greater competition for referrals amongst mental health centers, the level of acuity remains high, and shorter lengths of stay happen either due to funding or court expectation. The organizations I am familiar with are trying hard to face these realities. Im not sure I can say that about all the organizations that were cut. I am concerned about the mental health needs of our communities being met.
