In 2004 the UP forced some in management who were certified engineers (myself included) to go run trains out west. I was running this train, MNPRV, downgrade on the UP Canyon Sub also known as the Feather River Route. We were running on clear signals and then came across a red. In this type of territory that usually means the slide fence has been tripped. We crept down the 1% grade with 9000 tons and peeked around a curve at MP 261 to see this. Lets just say there was some puckering going on....
