In 2005, Israel handed the Gaza Strip over to Mahmoud Abbass Palestinian Authority. At the time he said he would be responsible for maintaining that area free of terrorism and he said no attacks on Israel would come from Gaza. After he was kicked out of Gaza and 10,000 rockets later, I ask myself: what would his promises in the present negotiations be worth? And if he was kicked out of Gaza by Hamas, who will guarantee that Hamas wont do the same to him in the West Bank? A two-state solution is still the only viable formula for resolving our conflict, but Sec. of State Kerry must put the emphasis on making sure that the Gaza experience is not repeated. in other words, turn his attention to Israels security rather than put pressure on us to make yet more concessions to Mahmoud Abbas, a man whose record on keeping deals with us is less than brilliant.
