In 2006 chief designer Tue Beijer started the development of the exterior design based on insights from the work with Bizzarrini and the P1. The new format that was the result of P2 tests and chassis development also added to the challenge. The engineers were given full freedom to do their dream solution. No wonder the chassis grew longer and wider. This was the start of the P3 design. As a first step Beijer made some simple sketches to set a base design we could all agree on. Next step he made a clay scale model that was scanned into a 3–D CAD model. Beijer and CAD artist Magnus de Brito then worked on the final styling making - a very complex task. When Beijer and the team were finally satisfied with the design it was milled to a full-scale volume model in plastic foam. This was done to get an even better understanding of the interior and exterior aspects of the design and to verify the CAD work. Aerodynamic and ergonomic tests were also done parallel with the styling work. After adjustments, a final full-scale clay model was milled to form the basis of the body moulds. Cliff Design in Torslanda did all milling.
