In 2006 when I first visited Dar es Salaam, what was known of the Azam family business was its ice cream. Less than 10 years later, Azam is such a huge business conglomerate that has quickly overshadowed the likes of Reginald Mengi and their multi billion businesses. How did it happen that this previously unknown Zanzibari Arab family has grown this fast to dominate Tanzanias economy with investments in almost all sectors covering telecommunications, food and beverage, marine etc. James G. Mbugua Bob Koigi Christin Chacha Obed Mutua Fred Gori Roselynn Omolloh Janet Otieno-Prosper...I know you guys follow the region. Could the Azam family be the next biggest player in EACs economy now that Tanzania has overtaken Uganda as the leading destination for Kenyas exports?
