In 2007, WB Animation and WB Premiere with the guidance of Bruce Timm(who created the DCAU) released Superman: Doomsday, a PG-13 adaptation of The Death of Superman and Return of the Supermen story lines directed by Bruce Timm, Lauren Montgomery & Brandon Vetti. This wasnt the first non-DCAU film(that was Superman: Brainiac Attacks) but it was the first in the than-new line of DC Animated Original Films that would feature a new cast and animation style. This film wasnt well received as the animation wasnt much different from Superman: The Animated Series(except for Lex Luther) and a few of the voice casting(directed by Andrea Romano, the Queen of voice casting)didnt work out as well as it could have, namely Anne Heche, who many felt read her lines like speed reading(my opinion her voice just annoyed me but I could understand her). I will post the list of the cast below. SPOILER BEGINS As for my opinion on the film I will say this, its not a bad film, they had a time constraint(one they still have)to cram a years worth of a story into a 70 minute time frame. I would have made this end on the fight and him dying(with the ripped cape flapping as Lois says What will we do now?) and than later in the year have the Return of the Supermen story line. The fight between Superman and Doomsday was done very well, you can tell they had a great time on it and the final fight with the clone Superman was pretty good too. The moment when clone Superman kills Toyman(which I loved how they made him look like Tim Burton in a Spider machine and Kevin Smiths comment) was definitely well played and the score done very well(Robert Cral scored the film). SPOILER ENDS While I wouldnt rush to watch the film, I still find it to be a nice time passer. The special features are actually quite good as well. check them out if you can.
