In 2010, I picked up with the Scrubs for a clean and sober tourney at Meadowdale. An opportunity to play with some of my favorites. EZ, Chelsee, Jennisa, Kimmie, and of course MJ. At the time I was playing with Lakeside, where every inning of every game was life or death. It just so happened to be moms bday weekend (kim corona ). In one of my many ocd softball related texts to her I promised her we would win the tourney. My gift to her. I told MJ about this promise and in true MJ fashion he just smiled and said ok, we had better make it happen. That kid never stopped competing, especially if it was to help some crazy kids win a state berth. He played his ass off that weekend. In a super humbling conversation he told me it time for me to pitch and bring it home. He believed in me when clearly he was having the tourney of a lifetime. Thats the kind of teammate and friend he was. We ended up winning that tourney. The Scrubs and mom got a state berth. They won state that year. That weekend with the Scrubs was a ton of fun. It was one of those chances you get to play ball with a dude you have played against for years and really cherish it. Ill miss ya buddy, Ill be interested to know which bat is the hottest up there in heaven.
