In 2010 one of my all-time favorite old-time celebrities, Doria Eaton Travis, died at 106. (I used to do a weekly search to see if she had passed. When I heard the news one night on television, I teared up.) Here she is at 101, dancing to Mandy, a song she had not performed since she was a young Ziegfeld girl some 85 years earlier. She later commented that, after the first few notes, she could remember every step. I have several books on this fascinating woman who actively ran her late husbands horse ranch almost until the time of her death. Over the years, I have gifted several students who are passionate about dance with the reproduction of the scrapbook she started as a child and maintained until her death. It is just plain fascinating.
