In 2010, the Constitution Party of Alabama Executive Committee passed a state immigration resolution. Let us know if your thoughts. Whereas, The 1901 Constitution of Alabama (Article 1 section 34) affirms that immigration is encouraged, Emigration is prohibited. “An immigrant is one who migrates to a nation and emigrant is one who migrates away from his home country” (differencebetween.net/language/difference-between-immigration-and-emigration) Whereas, The 1901 Constitution of Alabama (Amendment 509) "English is the official language of the state of Alabama. The legislature shall enforce this amendment by appropriate legislation. The legislature and officials of the state of Alabama shall take all steps necessary to insure that the role of English as the common language of the state of Alabama is preserved and enhanced. The legislature shall make no law which diminishes or ignores the role of English as the common language of the state of Alabama. Whereas, the Supreme Court has ruled (Hampton v. Mow Sun Wong, 426 U.S. 88, 1976) that Article 1 section 8 of our US Constitution gives congressional power to regulate immigration. Whereas, The Constitution Party of Alabama platforms affirms the integrity of the international borders of these United States and the Constitutional authority and duty of the federal government to guard and to protect those borders, including the regulation of the numbers and of the qualifications of immigrants into the country. The Constitution Party of Alabama will stand with our Alabama citizens by encouraging meaningful legislations to protect and defend our fellow citizens, our country, and the sovereignty of both the State of Alabama and the United States of America. “Each year approximately one million legal immigrants and almost as many illegal aliens enter these United States. These immigrants - including illegal aliens - have been made eligible for various kinds of public assistance, including housing, education, Social Security, and legal services. This unconstitutional drain on the federal treasury is having a severe and adverse impact on our economy, increasing the cost of government at federal, state, and local levels, adding to the tax burden, and stressing the fabric of society. The mass importation of people with low standards of living threatens the wage structure of the American worker and the labor balance in our country.” (Constitution Party Platform, constitutionparty/) Therefore be it Resolved, that the Constitution Party of Alabama State Committee supports legislation that will oppose the provision of welfare subsidies and other taxpayer-supported benefits to illegal aliens. Therefore be it Resolved, that the Constitution Party of Alabama State Committee supports legislation that will oppose the practice of bestowing U.S. citizenship on children born to illegal alien parents while in this country. Therefore be it Resolved, that the Constitution Party of Alabama State Committee supports legislation that will oppose any extension of amnesty to illegal aliens. Therefore be it Resolved, that the Constitution Party of Alabama State Committee supports legislation that will oppose bilingual ballots. Therefore be it Resolved, that the Constitution Party of Alabama State Committee supports legislation that will oppose a National Worker ID Card as justification for immigration reform. Therefore be it Resolved, that the Constitution Party of Alabama State Committee supports legislation that will cut off state funding to any city, county, or state district that sets any form of sanctuary to illegal immigrants. Therefore be it Resolved, that the Constitution Party of Alabama State Committee supports the rights of our county sheriff departments to enforce the constitution, which they have sworn to defend, by legally detaining illegal immigrants until they’re deported. Therefore it be Resolved, that the Constitution Party of Alabama will support legislation that will prohibit any legal resident from providing shelter, transportation or employment to illegal immigrants.
