In 2011 SOS put together a conference at the American University, a rally, and a march against NCLB/RTTT. It was one of the inspiring events I have ever attended. It brought 10,000 teachers, parents, children, and activists to DC. We have all the big names, including Nancy Carlson-Paige, her son Matt Damon, Diane Ravitch. Included in the events was one Mark Naison a founding members of BATs, future United Opt Leaders like Tim Slekar , Ceresta Smith Morna McDermott, and just about every whos who in SOS was there. Rita Solnet and Parents Across America was there. We grew a resistance movement to this Education Malpractice that dehumanizes our children, their parents, and their teachers. The BATs have a National Congress this July, and I am walking 400 miles to be there. My walk, this BAT Congress in some ways signals that move from resistance to opening of a peoples revolution to take back their schools. In 2011 at the SOS March Conference I attended many eye opening sessions. This one was run by Amy Mizialko and the Wisconsin teachers. This is a picture of some of us teachers who attended that session. I cant tell enough about how empowering standing up and fighting back with others is. This opportunities are few and rare. You get to meet some of the most amzing people. You get to hang out with people like Barry Lane, Rick Myers, Bess Altwerger, and Anthony Cody. Chicago was in the house as well as both Klonsky brothers with a whole Windy City crew. TNT Teaching is not Testing from Florida was there. We came in all sizes, all colors, spoke multiple languages, We were from the left and the right, we were of all faiths, we were straight and LGBT people standing together against High Stakes Testing. We were defenders of the arts, music, social studies, science, Language Arts, ESL children, special needs children, gym, play, recess, childhood, and local schools. Such events are really once in a life time events Trust me the are life changers. You are invited to help change the world.
