In 2012, Aidan was a very active 10 year old who loved all things sports - playing hockey, baseball, basketball and football, as well as watching all of his favorite Chicago teams (Bulls, Bears, Blackhawks and Cubs). On Leap Day (February 29th), 2 weeks after his 10th birthday, Aidan was diagnosed with pre-B cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). The first nine months of treatment were tough for Aidan. He missed a lot of school and spent many nights at the hospital due to chemo treatments and various infections. In particular, Aidan spent 3 weeks in the hospital during October 2012 battling an infection, after which Aidan was very weak and could not walk without assistance. Aidan is now in the maintenance phase of treatment and is looking forward to completing his chemo treatments in June 2015. Even through it all, Aidan has had a great spirit. Aidan loves cooking, playing xbox with his friends, and swimming. In addition, Aidan has excelled at school – completing sixth grade with almost all A’s All of chemo Aidan has taken in the past 2.5 years has caused his bone density to be low which has also impacted his walking and causes his bones to break easily. Aidan goes to physical therapy twice a week to strengthen his walking. And now, after almost 2 years of needing assistance to walk, Aidan is walking on his own! We are so proud of Aidan!
