In 2013 I visited Timor-Leste on a self-funded fact finding - TopicsExpress

In 2013 I visited Timor-Leste on a self-funded fact finding mission. On this trip, I met with government and community leaders and I was deeply moved by the spirit and resilience of the Timorese people. I also visited an orphanage at Maubara, about 30 km west of Dili. The orphanage has been supported by the Order of Malta for some years and is home to around 30 girls from the ages of six to 15. It is a place of great compassion and love but I was confronted by the state of the orphanage kitchen. I promised to return to help them out, to build them a new kitchen. Upon my return to Australia I contacted an architect to design the kitchen. This has been tailored to local needs. In January a team of volunteers and I will again visit Timor-Leste to install and commission the new kitchen. And today I spent welding legs together for the stove. Below I have also included a before picture of the orphanage kitchen. Everything must be packed into the container and ready for shipment by Friday.
