In 2013, the Yulin festival gathered so much negative press that this year, the local government denied the Summer Solstice dog-eating tradition ever even existed. But that hasn’t stopped locals from celebrating—nor has it stopped die-hard activists from flooding the town to try to rescue dogs before the slaughter. Quite an interesting video. It does get you thinking about cultural differences in terms of what is acceptable and what is not. While killings dogs for dinner might irk us out -why? because they are mans best friend and are so cute, we simply ignore cattle/chicken that are reared under terrible circumstances (under such conditions only their slaughter brings an end to their miserable existences) - why? because we like a good beef stake/ roast chicken and thus somehow these non-dog animals and birds are less worthy of welfare and dignity? Weidos trying to be human! Tsk!
