In 2014, The Bahamas like many developing countries is finding - TopicsExpress

In 2014, The Bahamas like many developing countries is finding itself facing a horrifying socio-economic dilemma. The MIDDLE CLASS in our country is consistently contracting and is now becoming the growing class of the WORKING POOR. Having a full-time job and owning a home is often the criteria for membership in the middle class. However, the reality is that one or two paychecks from financial collapse or financial ruin is membership in the working poor. The working poor continues to expand in The Bahamas, we are still struggling with recovery from the after effects of the Great Recession, many civil servants deserve raises but have not received them and the Department of Social Services could always use increased funding to assist struggling Bahamians. Yet, part of the national conversation at present involves salary increases for Parliamentarians? There is no question that these things are beneficial to a countrys progress and development but against the backdrop of our current socio-economic climate, I urge the Government of The Bahamas to practice restraint. I also urge ALL members of Her Majestys Loyal Opposition to unanimously vote NO to any such matter arising before the Parliament. It will be a slap in the face of the Bahamian people to complete such a transaction at this time! The time is always right to do what is right... #greatrecessionperspective #arroganceisnoexcuseforignorance
