In 2015, humanity will for the first time get up-close views of the two best-known dwarf planets in our solar system—Pluto and Ceres. On Mars, Curiosity Rover will begin its exploration of Mt. Sharp, the mountain whose base was submerged in water in the red planet’s distant past. And the Rosetta spacecraft continues its pioneering close-up examination of the surface of a comet. Learn more about exciting planetary exploration discoveries by enrolling in the ASTR 10A course this winter. Nicknamed “planets for poets,” the course features a nontechnical introduction to the planets, moons and cosmic debris. Foothills renowned astronomer Andrew Fraknoi, who has won local and national awards for teaching science without tears or fears, teaches the course. The course transfers to the CSU and UC. Register now at bit.ly/WinterReg15. Winter Quarter begins Jan. 5.
