In 3 weeks Im off to California for 2 months or so. Im looking forward to the travel, seeing Pittsburgh, Ohio, Chicago, Montana. Possibly Seattle and Portland too. Im thankful I have a set of crafts & skills to support me along the way - an able body, the know-how with a paintbrush and a slew of other tools. Ill bind books & wrap semi-precious jewels. Im sure there will be lots of celebrations, potlucks, and gatherings of poetry readings to keep me breathing & connect with folks along the way. Upon my return, Im already thinking, to take my vision into Camden and allow the streets to devour me anew... For the past two years Ive been bringing my art to Kensington & Old City, and though its been wonderful, a trip, a dream, I feel a call to a neighboring city in need. I am neither a savior nor a martyr, simply an artist with a wish to be close to death and to uplift a place that has been relegated to the grave. I dont know exactly what Ill do but Ive been biking the edges, and on occasion, I find myself in the thick of things. There is a part of me who is scared, and at the same time, not worried. At all. Wish me luck, and have it be known: I am not alone, and neither are you, in whatever pursuit you call home. For those I dont see often enough, this upcoming First Friday Ill be on 2nd Street with art & a blanket fundraising a bit for the trip. Come say hello and goodbye, well have a good time. Itll be an unofficial going away party. :D
