In 30 minutes a very historic moment in American history will resurface to our heart. The institution of Wiley College in Marshall, Texas from the Denzel Washington/Oprah film The Great Debaters will have a rematch debate against the University of Southern California. Two of my brilliant teammates will have an intellectual debate on racism in college admissions. The featured film in 2007 was not entirely true as far as debating Harvard. Actually, Wiley College debated none other than the west coast power house USC. Currently, I am in a rather large auditorium supporting Wiley as we prepare to claim victory on the resolution. There are many beautiful beings involved with the history this team has and will continue to accomplish. However, the true victory is humans of ALL races having a voice tonight. The GREAT Dr. Tommie Lindsey Jr. instructed me during my high school forensics career and spoke a mantra that sings in this auditorium today. Be a voice for the voiceless a proverb I promise to engrave on my tongue in any arena. We come from greatness therefore must exude the light and truth we are given. This opportunity of experiencing a debate between the USC and the best HBCU forensics team in the world is an honor. So, as I sit in the front row smiling at big wigs and children all enthralled in critical analysis and swift rebuttals. I am proud to bleed purple and white for Wiley College in Los Angeles for something much bigger than myself. Facebook friends and family have a great weekend And be INSPIRED!
