In 40+ years, I never realized how true this statement was...You cant connect the dots going forward ; you can only connect them looking backward, until I started seeing a good therapist. Guess partly it comes from my upbringing that you keep hush hush about anything that makes you look weak, or focusing too much on the past - will make you into a victim, or that you should take everything up with only God or family or a close friend. The truth is an expert who is objective can help you see your flaws and strengths (which you didnt know you had) so like anything else, you do what you need to do that is best for you. No judgments here.
