In Alaska, on the ship or on the hiking trails, we had animal close encounters. In Haines, Alaska we went eagle hunting along a salmon stream. The first photo is a baby eagle (took it with my iphone through a telescope). The whales surfaced right along side our ship. Judy said whales smell terrible!!! Never saw any brown bears (photo from a magazine), as they were thankfully out hunting salmon, but as we walked the trails, I was worried about coming face to face with one. As for the mountain goat, that is the only one we saw...a guy dressed up. We spent a lot of time behind binoculars as "official cruise spotters" searching the water or shoreline for animals. Yell "whale" port side and you would have a stampede to both sides of the ship!
