In America, a skyscraper that has stood out for years as "The Batman" building, home to big banks and corporations, in very good condition, was in the news as a building to be demolished in the near future because the owner cannot maintain it. Really? While many people roam the streets and sleep in the cold, dark and dangerous nooks in the city because they cannot anymore afford a place nor a bed to sleep on? The other night, I left the place where I lived to venture out in the street. I am a college graduate, experienced, hardworker, competent, with no criminal record - yet so few people trust and respect me. I know, because I remember them. You can imagine how the lowly ones are treated every single day in their lives. I met a small and frail little lady, obviously mentally and emotionally - challenged. She lost her apartment and was roaming the streets - naturally, because she is mentally challenged and do not make good decisions. Tired, hurt, untrusting of the world, all 75-pounds of her unhealthy body - she had entered a building to sleepover with a friend when the owner with three bully of a policemen took her out with excessive force (but of course) outside of the apartment. They did not hit her, but if you watch Cops on TV - they do not so obviously hurt the suspect so over 5M viewers can witness it. So anyways - she was talked down to, humiliated, laughed at and told never to go back there again or she will end up in jail. The very same apartment owner who this little lady has cleaned all three huge floors of his apartment for months, I would say, a few years ago --- for not pay. The little lady did not mind. She is just not that type to hate or talk ill of other people. She is this fragile little smiling woman when you talk to her or this lowly figure limping in the streets - lost in her own world of happy memories and pain. Imagine what traumatic effects that has on any person? To be told to leave late int he evening and go somewhere else, when your body is all weary and ready to escape and find recluse in a short sleep and a dream. Life is very, very delicate. Emotions, yet - surpass that. Most times - it can be beyond repair. Tread the world with more care than you would want yourself to be treated. This world was not meant for you - alone. The bad things you do to others will eventually come and haunt you or your loved ones, because Someone up there is watching and will eventually let you have a bit of what hurt you have done. I got unrailed from the topic I really wanted to write about. I was aiming at writing about some wasteful practice. I may not have been really back "home" to the country where I really come from and may not have been always happy with some of the things going on back there but I will always be grateful for the strong foundation I was built from. The religion, the education, the empathy and compassion for others. I see that here too, but rarely. Only in special friends that I have kept and respected. While I have lived here for many years, perhaps more years than anyone of you may want to spend away from "home" and family - this (America) has, whether you like it or not: become my home through hard work, dedication and naturalization. Nobody can tell me or any lame person they might see in the street who do not bear white color to: Go back to your country. I see a lot of unrest here too, just like I see in other countries. It is not the president you want to oust. It is the people whom he has given the power to protect us - those who are so faulty, "lacking" and arrogant. Anyways, here is the post I had wanted to share. I hope you have, in your busy time, a minute to think what could have been done instead.
