In August 1963 I was a teenager, I took part in the March on Washington where I heard Martin Luther King speech. I always thought about that mountain that I had to climb. It took many years of growing up and experiencing life in New York to understand all that was happening around me. I witness on tv what was happening to people in the South, being hosed down to stop them. Back then I was helping to register people to VOTE. Back then I was demonstrating for Black Studies at the City University. Back then I heard Malcolm X on 125th Street and 7th Avenue. Back then I was being schooled to become the WOMAN I have become! All because of the influence of the words spoken by Martin Luther King. Thank you Martin! Thank you!
