In Bali Nyonga today, we do have,Names and Titles respect, Honours - TopicsExpress

In Bali Nyonga today, we do have,Names and Titles respect, Honours to Titles,Respect to Succession Titles, Respect to Title names, Compound Names, and Praise Titles. It looks embarrassing and fraustrating when people do write confussing others in our Mbonbani not to Know which is Which. " Nimbang"-Doh NUGA G.N Doh Nuga, Your write up complement the above quote for it has added more confusion to the field of Titles/honor & respect to Title holders, already saturated with confusion. The claim by you that the Titles “Nkom Mfon” and “Fonte” were created by Fonyonga II, is not true. In regards to Bali Nyonga, the rank of the “Nkom” is the creation of Fonyonga I (Nyonpasi) and NOT Fonyonga II. “Nkom Mfon” also known as “Nkom Ba’ni or Nkom kwatad” This group of Nkom are the original seven Nkom appointed by Fonyonga I whose Titles are hereditary. Galega I maintained the above Nkom and did not appoint any Nkom. “Nkom Ngong” or simply “Nkom” This group of Nkom started during the reign of Fonyonga II. The Titles of “Nkom Ngong” can be revoked by the Fon and, may or may not be inherited by their descendants. Fonyonga II appointed 17 Nkom and Galega I appointed 27 Nkom. The Title of “Fonte” existed before Fonyonga II and was not created by him. The group of “Fonte” known as “Fonte Ba’ni” consists of “Fonte” (Sub Chiefs) whose people joined the Chamba on their migratory path before the battle of Bafufudong like Fotikali, Fokemban etc. Also if you go to Page 13 of ‘Zintgraff’s Explorations in Bamenda, Adamawa and the Benue lands 1889-1892” by E. M Chilver, you will see a photograph taken in 1903 in which are Fotikali, Fongiam, Fokundem etc. Doh Nuga, you can see from the above that your write up is confusing and embarrassing in that it written by someone who has published a book on the socio-cultural history of Bali Nyonga. You also stated that the following are titles, Fondikang and Fokejah. In which categories of titles do they belong and what are the honors to the above titles (mooh, Ndeh etc)? Can they be revoked by the Fon? Can they be inherited by the descendants of their holders? When it comes to Titles in Bali Nyonga there is no clear cut means of identifying who is a Title Holder and who is not, and functions of the Title Holders. The Traditional Council and the Palace have done nothing to address this issue. Instead more confusing Titles are created. There are people in Bali Nyonga today whose given names are Tita, Jalla, Sama, Nji and some with theirs starting with “Fo”. Also there are some title names starting with “Fo” whose holders are not “Fonte”. How does one figure out which bearer of Tita is a Prince, a Tita title Holder and which is none of the above, which bearer of a name starting with “Fo” is Fonte and not, etc? Thanks Steve
