In Borneo, our lone venturer Phil Dyer has been representing Bermuda well during his first phase - building a gravity water system in Kampung (village) Sungai Magandai in the Pitas District, one of the most remote and poorest regions of Malaysia. ""We started this valuable community project by building a dam for the gravity water feed system, which will provide constant and easy access to water in the village. We have transported building materials such as heavy bags of cement and sand to the waterfall by hand. It is a beautiful location to work in everyday, however, all of us have struggled to carry ourselves, materials and equipment up the steep hills and across this tough terrain." "We were all shattered but received some unexpected help! One day we were greeted at the site of the dam by 50 school children aged as young as 5 years old and upto 15 years old. Each child had carried a bag of sand to help us. We were overwhelmed by the support from the community and their willingness to pitch in and help us, whatever the age!"
