In Britain , Tonight could mark a monumental change OR a seismic shift of power if Scotland vote NO to Independence , which either way would fundamentally shape the political landscape of the British Isles as over 90% of Scottish citizens made their way to the polling stations to cast their vote that could determine the future of United Kingdom ( Great Britain) forever . Scotland fought against the English twice for Independence during the Medieval period . However in 1603, James VI, King of Scots inherited the thrones of the Kingdom of England and Ireland to become King James I of England and Ireland and in 1707 , Treaty Of Union was agreed between the Scot and English Parliaments to form the Kingdom Of Great Britain . The success of the union culminating through out the 18 up to the 20 century ushering in a new dawn for such as the Scottish Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution which has completely transformed the world forever . The immense success of the political union also saw the meteoric rise of the greatest Empire which the world had ever known . Also easy enough to point out the propagation of Civilsation and Christianity through British colonisation around the globe and even in the creation of United States of America was modeled upon a civil society envisioned by the Scottish philosophers and needless to say , all of the US founding fathers were also of British descent . And It is unbelievable to imagine a few votes or even one single vote could determine the fate of the United Kingdom and whatever the outcome is tonight , whats sure is that the damage had already been done and thus, there will be a little to salvage from their post-campaign disappointment should the result turn out to be a NO to Independence we should find out in the early morning hours .
