In Carib News Jamaica Hospitality Awards AND THE WINNERS ARE.... By Walter Greene The red carpet, traditional dancers, the paparazzi...all of the elements were in place at the Montego Bay Convention Center for the Gleaners Hospitality Jamaica 10th Anniversary Awards. The event was in collaboration with the Jamaica Tourist Board brought out all of the hospitality partners for a gala dinner and awards ceremony that followed a grand cocktail reception in the lobby of the Convention Center venue. Mr Lloyd B. Smith. Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives served as the Master of Ceremonies while Joan Andrea Hutchinson, Communications Specialist & Public Speaking Coach was the Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening. After the presentation of the National Anthem of Jamaica with Master Saxophonist David Cunningham, Rev. Courtney Walters, Assistant Police Chaplain, Area One gave the Invocation. DINNER During a delicious four course dinner, entertainment by Hah-r-mony Entertainment featured two dance troupes and renditions by the incomparable Karen Smith, who charmed the audience with her amazing vocals. During this segment, guests dined on; Cream of Pumpkin Soup with Roasted Coconut; Garden Mixed Green Salad with Marinated Tomato, Olives, Cucumber and Parmesan Cheese, dressed with a Pomegranate Vinaigrette. The delightful entree course comprised of Herbed Marinated Grilled Chicken Breast stuffed with Pak Choy and Sundried Tomatoes and Blue Cheese, combined with Seared Caribbean Red Snapper Crusted with Ginger, Mango and Pimento. This was accompanied by Mashed Potatoes, Herbed Baked Plantains, Grilled Zucchini and Squash. Dessert was a Banana & Chocolate Bread Pudding served with Appleton Rum Cream Anglaise. MESSAGES Janet Silvera, Coordinator Hospitality Jamaica welcomed guests and traced the humble beginnings of the awards program, thanking The Gleaner for providing a platform for the awards. Mr Christopher Barnes, Managing Director of The Gleaner thanked all of the participating partners who contributed to the growth of the event and Mr. Paul Pennicook. Jamaicas Director of Tourism brought a message of prosperity, growth and partnerships, from the tourist sector. Before the actual awards were presented, Mr. Dennis Morrison, Chairman, Hospitality Jamaica Awards Committee, introduced the judges and gave a general overview of the awards and how the winners were chosen. By then it was the much anticipated time for the winners to be announced. WINNERS The first award went to Jamaicas Best Transportation Company/DMC: ISLAND CAR RENTALS - presented by Mrs. Karin Cooper. Jamaicas Best Convention Facility: MONTEGO BAY CONVENTION CENTER - presented by Miss Nordia Craig. Jamaicas Best Purveyor: RAINFOREST SEAFOODS - presented by Mr. Garfield Grandison. Jamaicas Best Attraction: MYSTIC MOUNTAIN - presented by Mr. Lennie Little-White. Jamaicas Best Eco/Sustainable Hotel: HALF MOON - presented by Mr Winston Dear. Jamaicas Best Small/Boutique Hotel: RONDELL VILLAGE - presented by Miss Jenni Campbell. Jamaicas Best in Cuisine: ROUND HILL - presented by Mrs. Audrey Hinchcliffe. Jamaicas Best in Entertainment: RIU HOTEL MONTEGO BAY - presented by Dr. David Lowe. Jamaicas Best EP Hotel: HALF MOON - presented by Mr. Christopher Barnes. Jamaicas Best All-Inclusive: IBEROSTAR GRAND - presented by Miss Janel Silvera and Hospitality Personality of the Year: DR. CECIL CORNWALL - presented by Mr. Paul Pennicook. The Vote of Thanks was given by Dr Carol Archer, Director of The Gleaner Co, Ltd.
