In Christian cities and villages across Lebanon, in orthodox cathedrals and in Catholic homes, in Maronite monasteries and lining most roads, I saw icons and statues and shrines that showed Saint George slaying all sorts of dragons. Like many Europeans, Middle Eastern Christians have always looked to him in their darkest hours. I saw him in Iraq, and I saw him in Cyprus, and I saw him in Athens, just as I have seen him in England many times before. Happy Saint Georges Day. At a time when the West needs to rediscover chivalry, its heartening to know that hes still slaying dragons all over the world.
