In Conserving the Sensitive Shoreline Ecology of Coastal Uttara Kannada..... Recently attended a draft plan review meeting on the Sustainable Coastal Protection and Management Investment Program at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Uttara Kannda district on his request. I took a lead in convincing the district administration about the shortcomings of the Euroconsult Mott MacDonald BVs draft plan for the Uttara Kannada coastal shoreline management for the next One Hundred Years! and not to accept it in the present proposed form. Feeling happy, the new Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada district, Shri Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh, IAS directed the Euroconsult Mott MacDonald BV for the additional studies as well as stakeholder consultation and then to re-present the revised draft before the committee for further discussions. Also, my request to include the eminent scientists from Indian Institute of Science in the future meetings is honored by the DC. Hope the revised draft will ensure the safety and conservation of sensitive shoreline ecology of Coastal Uttara Kannada and respect the rights of the local traditional fishermen. I am highly thankful to Renowned Environmental Scientist Prof. Madhav Gadgil, Eminent Journalist and Visiting Professor at IIJNM Nagesh Hegde, Environmental Expert and Wildlife Photographer Manjunath Hegade Hosabale, Coastal Environment Specialist Dr. M. D. Subash Chandran, Indian Institute of Science Scientist Dr. T. V. Ramachandra, and US Geological Survey Expert Dr. Charles L Powell for their support and timely guidance.
