The Australian Society of Authors national ‘In Conversation’ series features professionals from your industry talking about writing, publishing and the business of authorship. A combination of presentation, public interview and Q&A, join our speaker and fellow writers for wine, cheese and a chat. About the presenters This event will feature James Boyce and Hamish Maxwell-Stewart. James Boyce is a Hobart based writer and historian. He has written two books, Van Diemens Land, and 1835: The Founding of Melbourne and the Conquest of Australia, both of which won the Tasmania Book Prize and were shortlisted in the PM Literary Awards and many state awards. 1835 was the 2012 Age Book of the Year. Dr Hamish Maxwell-Stewart is an academic expert on convict life in Australia who teaches History and Classics at the University of Tasmania. He is internationally recognised for his work on the history of convict transportation and has published a number of books on the subject, most notably Chain Letters: Narrating Convict Lives (MUP, 2001) with Lucy Frost for which they won the inaugural Kay Daniels award, and Pack of Thieves?: 52 Port Arthur Lives (Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority, 2001) with Susan Hood.
