In Detained Grand Gedeans Case, Sixteen Jurors Disqualified - One Gets Fifteen Days Imprisonment As the case involving the Nineteen Grand Gedeans gradually attracts the attention of the public, sixteen prospective jurors expected to partake in the case were on Wednesday, June 26th disqualified. The Case which was halted for hours led to Defense and Prosecution lawyers going into consultations for about an hour. After the closed door consultation, a letter from the Commissioner of West Point was read by His Honor, Judge Yussuf Kaba of criminal Court “D”, informing the court that she (the Commissioner) did not send the names of those five prospective jurors, but was done singlehandedly by the Clerk of the Township, thereby causing their disqualification. One of the prospective jurors from the Gardnerville Township, Henry Williams was disqualified during the screening process when he told the Court that he was residing in Sinkor on 5TH Street when he submitted his application form in Gardnerville. He could not justify his earlier pronouncement by disclosing the name of the house he was residing in at the time of the submission. The Defense counsel during the proceedings objected to two of the prospective jurors on grounds of perjury. Also at the screening process, Alvin P. Cole who is one of the prospective jurors informed the court that he has not served as juror before, but his claim was denied when one of the Lawyers representing the Prosecution body displayed a form of Alvin, that he has served as a juror in 2012 under a different Court with the name Victor Karr. The presiding judge of Criminal Court “D” Yussuf Kaba has ordered that Alvin P. Cole be remanded for lying under oath and deception. Those Sixteen disqualified prospective jurors were part of Twenty Four (24) selected to be jurors, but only four passed through the screening process. Amongst those disqualified were five from West Point, two from Congo Town, three from Gardnerville, and Six from other townships. Meanwhile, Judge Kaba has ordered the Clerk to write each municipality to submit names of Twenty Four prospective jurors on or before Friday, June 28 at 9:00AM.
