In Detroit, families with a greater balance than $150 are experiencing water shut off. Do you know what the state of Michigan will do to your family if you have minor children and you are without water in your home? They will open a CPS investigation, which means for 30 days they can go anywhere, talk to anyone and ask anything they want in order to build a case against you. Which they are very good at doing. The cases Ive worked on all were led by young, twenty something spawn of the elite college grads who honestly should be furthering their careers by trading stock or brokering big business deals. But instead, there is some cultureal and educations shift in the industry of social work that lands these wide backed, silk suit wearing young men in a courtroom ,working to take children from families, at whatever cost. Now, its also true that these same men are NOT intervening in the lives of children who are at great risk of neglect and abuse. Thats because, in my narrow experience, the whole point is to NOT LOSE IN THE COURTROOM. And if you dont like their questions, they will deem you non-compliant, and aggressive, which will escalate their investigation in building a case against you. Cause this isnt a criminal proceeding, its civil. which meams the burden of proof is lower. They can say previous CPS encounters is proof youre unfit. Then they will either take your children, or order you to a treatment plan with services. Because your water got shut off.
