In February 2009 I left Isle of Wight Radio after 16 years after having a wonderful time, leaving the comfort of a reasonably paid job and not really knowing where you were going to land was quite scary, some people said it was sheer stupidity but hey sometimes you have to take a risk and I wouldnt change any of it, I have learnt more in 5 years than I did in the previous 45. Within three months of leaving I had an idea in place and that was a proper community radio station that let the community do the broadcasting thus giving people the chance to do something that I had been given but they have never been given the opportunity to do, whilst providing affordable advertising for small local companies, work placements for school children and very recently the Four Ps project came to fruition helping youngsters between 11 and 19 and up to 25 with additional needs. We moved from Studio to Studio our last studio was a glorified shed, just goes to show with a bit of hard graft and a dream what you can achieve. We now have a proper studio environment a fabulous new website and android app and an Apple app so we have come on leaps and bounds and couldnt have done it without the nucleus of people that have gone above and beyond the cause people like Kelvin Currie Marko Luckyboy Newlands Gavin Harris to name but a few because there are many others believe me and to the Knockers too cos you put fuel in The Mac Tank, so ta!! On Friday, 23 January we would have been broadcasting for five years it has been an incredible journey with many highs and a few lows on the way, I sold my motorscooter, my car, jewellery but have met some wonderful people of all ages and abilities shapes and sizes with all sorts of problems and talents too and if I hadnt of left the comfort of IWR that wouldnt have happened, I would really like to thank all of those people that have been part of Vectis Radio past and present, listeners and sponsors your support was and is greatly appreciated. Please feel free to pop in to VectisRadio studio at the Riverside Centre in Newport on the big day between 10 and three we got coffee and tea cake biscuits on the go youd be most welcome......... and I will tell you about the plan for the next chapter!! Love Macca XXX
