In February last year, in response to the Governments 6.9m population White Paper, NSP proposed that parents should be incentivised to sell their flats and buy one nearer their childrens if they wanted to. This we felt would contribute to improving our fertiiity rate because it could make child care arrangements easier. It could also better facilitate future eldercare arrangements. We proposed that the resale levy for parents to move near their child be removed. We are glad that the Minister for National Development, Mr Khaw Boon Wan, has now promised to study how best his Ministry can help fulfill Singaporeans’ aspirations to live near their extended families for better mutual care and support.
