In Forest Park we have 536 acres. In this park we have close to a million visitors a year. In this park we have runners, bikers, hikers, bird watchers, horses, dogs, nature lovers, cross country skiers, walkers, trains, many, many people, all of which have every right to be here if they want to be! Obviously above all everyone needs to understand, and realize this park does not belong to any one individual or sport, it is not for you and you alone, RESPECT, COURTESY, and being mindful of others as best we all can should be a given! Their are aways rules for everything, but there are so many people that believe they have an inevitable right to tell you what you should or shouldnt be doing, and have the need to inform you of what you can and cant do, because they feel justified in doing so, but the annoying part of this, and the point of this writing is that these people Im talking about do it because of their own fears an insecurities, not for any other reason, and they are totally unaware of the bigger picture, only their own selfish needs, and wants. I see it everyday. Is it me? What the hell is wrong with people? A program for proper etiquette, understanding, and tolerance through education of the other activities, and situations that may and do arise in the park. To bring an awareness to the many people that dont seem to have a clue that they are not the only people in Forest park with exclusive rights. I have been going to this park for almost 50 years, but I have learned more in one year coming up here everyday, in rain, snow, hot, cold, windy, calm, fog, night, day, sunny, gray. Ive spoken to the homeless, to the kids that come up here to get high, to just about everyone with an activity, and an opinion. The one most common base line I find is SELFISHNESS, and total unawareness to the big picture...Incredible! Now for the challenge, how do we correct all these ways of thinking or more correctly put, awareness to help in the understanding of what exactly we have in Forest park so that everyone can enjoy this beautiful place in a more civilized manner. Is that even possible??? I wouldnt even be writing this if I didnt think it was. You can leave when you want to, Im just brain storming thats all. Forming a plan, Do I even have the time for this? Just something that came to mind because of the QueensWay Project, and the meeting we had last night. Very informative, and enjoyable, Im all for it by the way. If you would like to know more about it you can look it up on line. Anyway I had to put my thoughts down, it helps me formulate ideas that may or may not ever come to fruition.
